Flying Immortal Tower is located at the northwest of center Sanqingshan, west cliffside under Purple Vapor Stone. It is composed of three parts, pedestal, abutment and top. It is a most important architecture where the immortals are received, met and take off according to cinnabar faction of Taoism. Three big characters “Flying Immortal Tower” are written on the side adjacent to the cliff in regular script. It was built in reign of Hongzhi in Ming Dynasty (1488~1505) in stone with two-layer of pedestals. The top was damaged and restored by Sanqingshan Administrative Bureau in 1995. On the top layer of abutment there are couplets and lettering on the gate posts of four-petalled lotus, but illegible due to weathering and wearing. Of which the left couplet is faintly visible “prosperous country fine mountain Taoist priest”. Characters of “WANG Yongyu’s lay younger brother Yongyou” and “supremacy” are carved on the other stone pillar. According to this, we may speculate that the tower was funded and built by Lord Yongyu’s younger brother Yongyou.

There are lots of mysterious rocks and unusual stones surrounding Flying Immortal Tower. In front of the tower is Tianya Cliff of special, dangerous and magnificent, on which pines are verdant, below which is a bottomless chasm. There are Parrot Mouth, Deer Head Rock, Golden Drum Stone, and Three-star Stones at northwest side of the tower. Golden Drum Stone is a huge round stone that several meters high. If the tourists climb on and beat at the middle with a stick, it sounds like a drum. In ancient times there is “The soul of Tianmen Gate holds numerous mountain rain, the sound of stone drum contains full night wind”, thus it was named as “Golden Drum Stone”. Three-star Stones are three strange stones standing at the cliff at south of the Flying Immortal Tower. People refer them to “Star of Lucky, Star of Prosperity, Star of Longevity”. That’s the name comes from. Besides the rocks there are precious flowers---Fairy Flower. At the northwest side of the tower there are stone scenic such as flat peach, a great hawk spreads its wings and etc., lifelike and astonishing. Such beautiful scenery paves the way for you looking into the distance by standing in front of the Flying Immortal Tower, surrounded by mountains and trees, stretching as far as your eyes can see. When the setting sun shines aslant on the clouds and mists in the mountains, they are reddened, feeling like “look afar to the trees and clouds into boundlessness, thousands of mountains extending into the setting sun in purple mist”. It shall be another scene in the sun after the rain; white mist-covered, clouds are up and down like waves, just like a vast sea. Folklore tells us, Jade Emperor holds fairy party on Yujingfeng Peak every year in lunar calendar August. Various immortals take a rest on Flying Immortal Tower when attending the party on Shaohua Mountain. They can overlook the three main peaks, look down to flying fairy deep and secluded valley. Meanwhile they can enjoy the sight of west sea and cloud waves. It is the best place to view the setting sun and the evening glow. The landscape is really elegant.
