Jiu Tian Ying Yuan Temple

The granite Jiu Tian Ying Yuan Temple, namely Temple of God of Thunder whose front architrave has five characters “Jiu Tian Ying Yuan Temple” inscribed on, is located on slope of southeastern Nine Dragon Mountain, right standing at south ending of north-south axis. It is a small pavilion-style temple heaped and engraved by stone. Inside, stone sculpture of Firmament Yingyuan Thunder General God Master, named God of Thunder, also known as Chief of Thunder or Lord of Thunder, is worshiped. In the account of Classic of Mountains and Rivers, “God of Thunder has dragon body and human head, thundering when belly up”. In Miscellany of YunXian · Heaven Drum, thunder is named Heaven Drum and God of Thunder is called Chief of Thunder. It writes in Li Sao (The Lament) that “The lord of thunder urged me to delay” and Hong Xingzu added notes as “God that is in charge of thunder and rain is named Lord of Thunder”. Taoism elaborates it as that “thunderclap can speak for Heaven by indicating disasters, controlling balances of all matters, being in charge of everything including issues, man, life and death.” Yuqing Huasheng Thunder General God Master, Ninth son of Fuli Primus controlled Heaven for thirty-six days.
