Zhongmiao Thousand Steps Gate

Zhongmiao Thousand Steps Gate, standing at an altitude of 1400 meters high at the end of Xiaoyao road between dragon head rock and Chongxu Peak, is the second mountain gate built in the reign of Emperor Chingtai of Ming dynasty.
It is a granite arch gate with north on the left (west) engraving five characters in regular script ”zhongmiao thousand steps gate” and South on the right embossed a statue of Budda.
The stone steps to the gate totals 170 meters with over 500 levels which gives it the name of “thousand steps”. Peculiar rocks lie along the way and a few steps upward stands on the cliff the rare stone called “mother-son stone, which resembles a thumb in a rough glimpse while a caring mother feeding her son if taking a closer look. Another 50 meters upstairs sees another stone on west cliff resembling the Pipa upside down and so get the name of "pipa stone". East across the waters located a small stone mountain, shaped like a monkey with both hands holding mouth, innocent and lovely, known as the “Golden monkey playing hands”. Around the Thousand Steps Gate stands five peaks known as Five Heaven Door. In fact there are no doors but five mountain passes naturally formed by five doors, each engraved with three character in regular script “East heaven door”, “South heaven door” “west heaven door”, “north heaven door” and “middle heaven door”. In the middle bend of stone steps separated by the waters situated a peak shaped like millet ear on which engraved "millet bead".
“The phrase of“Zhongmiao”comes from Lao Tze,”mystery comes out of mysteries and wonder comes out of Zhongmiao doors”. Picturesque peaks and passes shaped the wondrous scenery honoring the reputation of “Zhongmiao”. Green trees line up around the gate to make the environment beautiful and elegant. It is 800 meters far from Hundred steps gate to the Thousand steps gate, measuring 500 levels known as the “thousand-steps”. Along the way lies picturesque rocks and steep peaks that dazzles visitors, hence Yu Chaokai, the poet in Qing Dynasty said in his poem during Shaohua Mountain visit that “close to the heaven gate give the wondrous and amazing sceneries”.
