Nanchang University, called as NU for short (its official abbreviation is NU and is changed as CU in 2003, and is changed as NU again in 2015), located in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, is a comprehensive university combining liberal art, science, engineering and medicine and integrating study, research, industry and application, significant university of 211 Project and Postgraduate Program Sponsored by Government for National High-level University Construction, the important developing university of “University Comprehensive Strength Promotion Project of Western and Central China” and the experimental university of the first batch of “Remarkable Engineer Training Plan” of the Ministry of Education and “Remarkable Doctor Training Plan”. It owns the National University Science Park, the first 11 undergraduate science & technology entrepreneurship practice base, and participate the establishment of “University Union of Midwest China”.

The university originates from Jiangxi Public Medical Academy founded in 1921 and State-own Zhongzheng University founded in 1940. In 1993, Nanchang University was founded by the combination of Jiangxi University and Jiangxi Industry University. It ranked in key development university of national 211 Project in 1997. The Ministry of Education and People’s Government of Jiangxi Province signed the agreement to jointly develop Nanchang University in 2004. In 2005, Nanchang University and Jiangxi Medical College combined and the new Nanchang University was founded.

Until December 2015, the university shares five campuses such as Qianhu, Qingshanhu, Donghu, Poyanghu and Fuzhou, among which the main campus of Qianhu covers 4500 Mu with 1.3 million square meters building areas. There are 36936 full-time undergraduates, 13261 students of master degree and 782 overseas students.
