Chapter one is the first chapter

 Article 1 to strengthen the management of geosites, the effective protection and rational utilization, according to "the people’s Republic of China Environmental Protection Law," the people’s Republic of China mineral resources law "and the protection of the natural law of the people’s Republic of China District Ordinance formulated the provisions.

 Article second these Provisions shall apply to the administration of various geosites in the areas of the people’s Republic of China and other jurisdictions.

 The provisions of Article III of the said geosites, refers to in the long geological history period of deepening the earth, due to various internal and external dynamic geological processes, formation, development and the legacy of the precious, non renewable natural geosites.

 Fourth Geosites protected are the precious wealth of the country, and no unit or individual may destroy, dig, sell or transfer in other forms.

 Fifth geosites protection is a part of the environmental protection, should be the implementation of the "active protection, reasonable development" principle.

 Sixth Department of Geology and mineral resources under the State Council, the administrative department of environmental protection under the State Council to assist in the implementation of the national geosites conservation and supervision and management. The administrative departments of Geology and mineral resources under the people’s governments at or above the county level shall, with the assistance of the administrative department of environmental protection under the same level, carry out supervision and administration of the protection of geosites within their respective jurisdictions.

 The second chapter of the protection of geosites

 Article seventh the following geosites shall be protected:

 First, the traces of geological history has great scientific research value of the typical stratotype section (including parastratotype section), fossil assemblage with stratigraphy, lithology and lithofacies building profile and typical geological profiles and structural features;

 Second, of the earth evolution and biological evolution has important scientific and cultural value of the ancient human and ancient vertebrates, invertebrates, micro paleontology, ancient plants fossils and origin and important paleontological activity remains.

 Third, with major scientific research and ornamental value of karst, Danxia, loess, Yadan, granite peaks, quartz sandstone peak forest, volcanoes, glaciers, meteorites, Mingsha, coast peculiar geological landscape;

 Four, with special subject research and ornamental value of rock and mineral, gem and its typical origin;

 Five, unique function of medical treatment and health care and scientific research value of hot springs, mineral, mineral mud, groundwater activity traces and special geological significance of waterfalls, lakes, Qi Quan;

 Six, with the meaning of scientific research of typical earthquake, crack, collapse, subsidence, collapse, landslide, debris flow and other geological disasters remains;

 Seven, the need to protect the other geosites.

 The third chapter is the construction of geosites protection zone

 Article 8 of international, domestic and regional typical geological remains, the establishment of national, provincial, county geosites protection zone, geosites protection zone, protection of geosites and geological park, hereinafter referred to as the geosites protection zone.

 Classification standard of ninth geosites protection zones:

 National level:

 One, can be a large regional or even global evolution process, a major geological history of the event or the stage of evolution to provide important geological evidence of geosites;

 Two, with the international or domestic large regional stratigraphic (tectonic) contrast significance of the typical profile, fossils and origin;

 Three, with international or domestic typical geological landscape or phenomena.

 Provincial level:

 One, can provide important geological evidence for the regional geological history evolution stage;

 Two, there are regional stratigraphic (tectonic) contrast of the typical profile, fossils and origin;

 Three, in the division and classification of the ground, with a representative or high history, culture, tourism value of the geological landscape.

 county-level：

 First, in the county (city) within the scope of a scientific study of the value of the typical profile, fossils and origin;

 Two, in a small area with the characteristics of the geological landscape or geological phenomena.

 Tenth geosites protection areas of the declaration and approval:

 The establishment of national geosites protection zone, by the State Department of Geology and mineral resources administrative departments or geological remains the location of the province, autonomous region, municipality directly under the central government people’s government to apply the National Natural Protection District review boards, by the environmental protection administration under the State Council department in charge of examination and sign an opinion, submitted to the State Council for approval and publication.

 For the protection of national geosites, which are to be listed on the list of the world natural heritage, the administrative department of Geology and mineral resources under the State Council shall report to the competent administrative department of the State Council.

 The establishment of provincial geosites protection zone, by geological location of the city (the ground), county (city) people’s government or at the same level of Geology and mineral resources administrative departments apply after provincial nature reserve of the Vetting Committee, by the province, autonomous region, municipality directly under the central government ring environmental protection administrative department in charge of examination and and sign an opinion, submitted to the provincial, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government for approval, announced.

 The establishment of county of geosites of protected areas, the geosite is located under the people’s government at the county level of Geology and mineral resources administrative departments apply by county-level nature reserve the Vetting Committee of district and county (city) people’s government environmental protection administrative department in charge of examination and and signed, and submitted to the county (city) people’s government for approval and publication.

 The establishment of two or more administrative regions cross the geosites protection zone, followed by the relevant administrative region of the people’s government or at the same level of Geology and mineral resources administrative departments consultation apply in accordance with the provisions of the preceding three procedures for examination and approval.

 Division of the eleventh protection degree

 The geosites in the protected area can be protected by one level, two and three respectively.
