Young people are the future decision makers and guardians of world heritages. Therefore, UNESCO has committed itself to encouraging young people to understand world heritage and join in world heritage protection. In the 70th Anniversary of the Foundation of UNESCO and the 30th Anniversary for China to Enter World Heritage Convention, under the assistance of many institutions, UNESCO representatives in China embarked on this competition aimed to encourage more adolescents to engage in world heritage protection.

The contestants were mainly kids and youths including students from primary, middle schools and universities. Taking Sanqingshan as object, they created picture books targeting at kids from 3 to 12 years old. Contestants were encouraged to use a story-telling way to demonstrate the aesthetical, scientific and cultural value of Sanqingshan and they were also encouraged to employ diversified patterns of painting or ways of expressions, including but not limited to intangible cultural heritage art forms such as Chinese traditional painting, calligraphy and paper-cut.

This competition also attracted experts in the field of world heritage protection, education and voluntary activities as well as art experts to be judges.  Four most outstanding works had been selected by judges and the wining students were invited to attend the 2015 UNESCO World Heritage Forums—World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism” held on May 20th to 22nd in Sanqingshan and explain their work in the special link while the rest of the entries were also displayed during symposium.

Outstanding works would stand the chance to be published and publicized in the future and finally enjoy the potential to become Series of China World Heritage Picture Book.
