In the Startup Ceremony of European Geoparks Week on June 3rd, Sanqingshan UNESCO Global Geopark from China and Villuercas-Ibores-Jara Geopark of Spain officially became sister parks. In the meantime, the conference played a trailer of Sanqingshan’s landscape which shocked all participating representatives.

The two geoparks far apart successfully became sister parks, invigorating sustainable development of both parks and expediting cooperation and communication in scientific research, science popularization and education, resources protection and park management, boosting the development of both parks.

On 4th, Deputy Secretary of Sanqingshan, Zha Qizhi interacted with José Ma Barrera Martín Merás, the Director of Villuercas-Ibores-Jara Geopark of Spain via video and extended his congratulations on the establishment of sister parks and introduced Sanqingshan UNESCO Global Geopark’s profile.
Villuercas-Ibores-Jara Geopark is located in the southeast of Caceres Province of Spain. With its fractured and folded landscape under vehement geological force as well as abundant natural eco-system, it was listed as a global geopark in 2011 September.
